When you see a dog you like, come visit us so you can meet the dog! If it feels like a good match, you'll fill out an adoption application.
If you have other pets at home, we'll setup a time for you to bring them to the shelter to interact in our fenced play area to see that they are compatible.
We also want all family members to meet the dog(s) before adoptions are finalized.
If you decide you’d like to adopt your new furry friend and your application shows you to be a good match, you’ll pay the adoption fee and begin life with your newest family member!
Currently, the LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society only has dogs available for adoption. However, since we’re housed in the same location as the City of LaGrange Animal Shelter, you will be able to meet and interact with plenty of cats and other dogs as well. The city shelter also has dogs available for adoption that are not listed on our page. To see available shelter cats & dogs, please click here.
The LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society keeps an eye out for dogs at the City of LaGrange Animal Shelter that would make great companions! Once we learn about the dog’s temperament and history, we interact with him or her and begin the transfer process from the shelter to the humane society. Once a dog has been transferred, we transport him or her to the vet for spay or neuter, vaccinations, and an overall health check! We also microchip each of our dogs to help prevent them from being shelter dogs again.
While we transfer a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes of dog, we don’t transfer dogs at the request of the public.
However, if there is a particular breed you’re interested in, you can provide us with your contact information to let you know if one comes our way.
If you are looking for a certain type of pet, check the top of this page, or come down in person to browse our dogs.
You can also do regular breed specific searches by zip code using the Petango advanced search.
Because the LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society first spays or neuters our dogs prior to adoption, we are unable to transfer puppies younger than 6 months of age. Depending on age and availability, the city shelter may have puppies available.
We feel very strongly that the choice to adopt must be made by the person caring for the pet. Some of the dogs under our care or the care of the city shelter have been surrendered because the client was given the pet as a present. Because pets are a lifelong commitment, it is very important that there be a bond between pet and owner. It is standard procedure that we speak to the primary caregivers before we approve the adoption of a pet.
